The HTC SPV-E100 was the world’s first Windows CE (WinCE) smartphone. Originally released in 2002 through European carriers Orange and Vodafone, the SPV-E100 promised “sound, pictures, and video” (SPV) along with Microsoft Outlook, Media Player, and Internet Explorer.

Indigo founder Lawrence Weng was part of the design team that created the first and subsequent SPV releases. Among its many innovations are the keypad user interface, slim design, and interchangeable front covers that work with shared internal components—reducing production costs while allowing different carriers to customize the product’s look to match their brands.
